Typical Applications:
Chiller evaporators
Comfort cooling systems
Industrial process cooling
Ammonia chiller systems
Heat exchangers and refrigeration equipment
Tube Sizes & Configurations:
Evaporator tubes are commonly manufactured in the following outside diameters (O.D.):
5/8″ (15.88 mm)
3/4″ (19.05 mm)
1″ (25.4 mm)
For ammonia chillers, evaporator tubes are most often supplied in prime (smooth) surface configurations. Many other chiller systems utilize externally enhanced evaporator tubes to maximize boiling efficiency.
Available configurations include:
Prime surface (smooth) evaporator tubes
Externally finned tubes for enhanced boiling performance
Internally enhanced tubes with I.D. rifling or grooving
Internally & externally enhanced tubes for maximum heat transfer
Materials Available:
Replacement evaporator tubes are available in a wide range of materials, including:
Copper and copper alloys
Copper-nickel alloys
Stainless steel
Carbon steel
Other custom alloys upon request
Performance Advantages:
Efficient boiling on tube exterior
Porous finned surfaces for improved refrigerant evaporation
Internal enhancements that induce fluid rotation
Higher pressure drop for improved heat transfer
Increased system efficiency and cooling capacity
Improve Heat Exchanger Efficiency
Overall evaporator and heat exchanger performance can often be improved by:
Increasing fins per inch (FPI) on externally enhanced tubes
Applying internal rifling grooves to increase surface area and pressure drop
These enhancements help retain fluids in the tube longer, resulting in higher heat transfer rates without major system redesign.
